October’s theme is: Deep with the Balrogs in Khazad-dûm

In anticipation of our October content, the essay question is:

Imagine you are part of the Company, experiencing those harrowing moments on “The Bridge of Khazad-dûm.”

In your own words, briefly describe what you see and how you feel.

What most impresses you about the Balrog, and why?

What most amazes you about Gandalf?

What do you think Tolkien was attempting to accomplish with this plot twist?
