Gender, Sexuality, and the Gospel

Tom Mackintosh

Celebrities “come out” on social media. The news provides coverage of debates and legislation around protection for LGBTQ+ communities. Sports teams host “pride nights” with rainbow-colored jerseys. Cookie companies, clothing brands, and insurance companies tweet statements like “love is love.” The subjects of gender and sexual identity are impossible to avoid in our present day. Indeed, more than that, identifying oneself along gender and sexual-orientation spectrums seems to be the primary way in which modern individuals define who they are. Ultimately, our society is seeking to answer a more fundamental question than it realizes: what does it mean to be human?

In our first week on this topic, we’re going to explore how Scripture answers this question and what ramifications that has for our understanding of gender and sexual identity. Our prayer is that we will better equip our teens to understand why Scripture defines gender and sex the way it does – and more importantly, why the truest answer to what it means to be human is found in the Messiah Jesus.
